EUNONDI Jean Monnet Module Workshop
“EU Non-discrimination Promotion within and beyond the EU”
Organized by Department of International Relations Atılım University with the support of European Commission, Jean Monnet Action
Ankara Turkey
24-25 June 2021
EU’s non-discrimination policy is a well-established arena for transforming the EU member and candidate countries as well as its neighbours. As a magnet, the EU has successfully transformed many countries regarding their fight against discrimination. Europeanized successfully by the EU, many countries like the ones in Central and East Europe progressed in their fight against discrimination and adopted norms, rules and values within the EU’s non-discrimination regime.
The aim of this workshop, organized as a part of the Jean Monnet Module EUNONDI, is to address the theoretical and empirical questions in EU’s promotion of non-discrimination within and beyond its borders. It focuses on how the EU has developed a non-discrimination regime and how it has used its transformative power to promote the principle of non-discrimination within and beyond its borders. As a sub-objective, the workshop targets creating awareness on non-discrimination and the importance of the EU in promoting the principle in Turkey.
We invite paper proposals focusing on theoretical perspectives on the EU’s norm diffusion and empirical cases on EU’s non-discrimination promotion within and beyond its borders. The papers focusing on cases of EU’s non-discrimination promotion within the EU member states, EU candidate states and EU neighbourhood states are welcome. The workshop aims to bring academic and non-academic circles together and, therefore, promote interaction and collaboration between them. Therefore, we are very much interested in both academic and non-academic perspectives on the EU’s non-discrimination promotion within and beyond its borders.
This two-day-workshop will be held online on June 24-25, 2021. Please send a 250 words abstract wits a cover pageincluding a short bio, institutional affiliation and your contact details to gozde.yilmaz@atilim.edu.tr at the latest on June 01, 2021.
